John Paul Chen

Executive Director

Leading Strata Consulting Group as the main consultant to advise clients on corporate structuring, branding, accounting, and business strategy. Together with Tom, a partner of Strata Consulting Group, we focus on the founder’s needs to grow/expand their current business and expand their business to listing or M&A.

 

John Paul Chen previously held roles in General Electric (GE Capital) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). He has operated in several industries holding functions in accounting, finance, business development, and strategy in government agencies and MNCs, and startups. His most recent role was the Group CFO of a regional entertainment and events company, John oversaw the strategic planning and implementation of business plans for the company and group of subsidiaries. John Paul is the current honorary treasurer for Gatekeepers Singapore, a Christian marketplace ministry association. John Paul is a Chartered Accountant under the Institute of Chartered Accountants

 

Australia and studied accounting and finance at Curtin University in Perth, Australia.

Tom Ong

Partner

Thomas is a partner at Strata Consulting Group overseeing mergers & acquisitions, corporate advisory, and fundraising and specialises in agri & aqua production and processing across Asia. 
 
Mr. Thomas Ong con-currently serves as business development director for several regional companies in the energy, manufacturing and food-related industries. 
 
He served 6 years as a member and resource panelist of the SPRING Start-up Enterprise Development Scheme (SPRING SEEDS) Investment Panel, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SPRING Singapore, a statutory board under the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry, that provides equity-based co-financing options for Singapore- based early-stage companies. Prior to focusing on the food supply sector, Thomas was a director of A.D. Venture Limited, a Singapore-registered fund investment and management company with operating arms in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China.
 
Previously, he served 5 years with the Ministry of the Environment and the National Environment Agency (NEA) where he collaborated closely with the Economic Development Board (EDB), International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore), Workforce Development Agency (WDA), and related industry groups to promote high-value environmental services to the domestic and international markets.
 
Thomas brings with him broad experience with multiple stakeholders at the shareholders, board, and management levels, He possesses strong relationships with state agencies and farmers cooperatives in ASEAN and has proven track records in leading and executing complex cross-border and cross-cultural business transactions and teams.
 
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Science in Information Studies from Nanyang Technological University.

Bernard Chen

Senior Advisor

Mr. Bernard Chen has been in the real estate industry for over 30 years. He was in the marketing divisions of property development firms - HONG FOK CORPORATION, WOH HUP GROUP, and SINGAPURA DEVELOPMENT LTD. In 1985 he was seconded to PT SASANA BOGA through the recommendation of Jones Lang Wootton Singapore to manage the development & marketing of regional shopping malls - Tunjungan Plaza and Taman Hiburan Rakyat, East Java's largest shopping mall in Surabaya. From 1991-1994 he was appointed executive director of CH WILLIAMS TALHAR & WONG office in Singapore taking charge of Bandar Selesa satellite-township, Kabil Industrial Park, and Amansari resort. During his tenure with C H Williams, he was involved in a broad category of real estate projects covering West Malaysia, Phuket, and Singapore.

In 1995, he co-founded Strata AMC - a boutique firm offering advisory & customised services to investors and tenant representation services to MNCs. In 2004 he was seconded to manage the marketing of the TIANJIN MAGNETIC CAPITAL PLAZA, a mega commercial & residential development offering 1.45 million sq ft of retail space. The multi-billion RMB development includes a 5-star hotel, five apartment towers and 3 office buildings next to the hotel. The site is situated next to the Tianjin Olympic Stadium which was completed before the 2008 Games.
His knowledge and experience are in the area of property investment. Currently, he is active in the collective sales of old estates and provides real estate consulting and brokerage services to investors intending to acquire hotel and office buildings. He recommends alternative real estate investments such as theme parks for membership etc as good substitutes for traditional real estate.

As a former vice president and chairman for training & and development with the Association of Singapore Real Estate Agents (ASREA), he was responsible for the organisation and implementation of the Chinese Common Exam for House Agents for the agent industry in 1996. He was also an associate consultant with the National Skills Recognition System organised by Work Force Development Agency. His area of specialisation is waste disposal management. Bern was a co-opted member of the VGP council of the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (2008-2010)

Bern obtained degrees in Business Administration (BBA) and Real Estate Management (BSC.REM), from the University of West London and Heriot-Watt University respectively. His other qualifications include a CIMUK Marketing Diploma, a Professional Diploma in Real Estate Marketing (SISV), and a Specialist Diploma in Facility & Energy Management. He is a member of the following:

Henry Tay

Advisor

Mr. Henry Tay joined Strata Consulting Group in 2007 and is based in Wuhan, China. His main role is to identify potential investors for overseas projects, particularly in the ASEAN region where he works closely with the Singapore directors. Based in Wuhan, Hubei Province, he is responsible for initiating and managing ongoing liaison with the local business community, government authorities, bureaus, agencies, and offices of China to help identify, evaluate, and present overseas projects that are deemed feasible. Major areas would include infrastructure, eco-tourism, renewable energy, and security services & hardware.

Prior to joining SCG Singapore he held positions in various established organizations
Electrical Engineer - PORT OF SINGAPORE AUTHORITY and an Electrical Engineer - FAR EAST LEVINGSTON SHIPBUILDING

Building and repairing new and old oil rigs of major oil drilling companies in the world was part of his work scope. He was involved in the electrical and electronic systems of oil rigs, evaluation, and testing. commissioning and handing over.
Consulting Engineer (Electronic & Physical Security Systems) - CISCO

Understudied practical specialization conducted by Israeli experts in the above field, Was responsible for construction, installation, commissioning, and handing over of systems to owners.

Electrical Engineer - SINGAPORE TECHNOLOGIES

Build and repair electronic and electrical systems for specialized application of sea-going vessels for civilian and military use.
Electronic and Electrical Engineer - TEST Engineering Singapore

​

TEST is an acronym for Test of Engineering Systems Team. He was in the team to construct, install, test, commission and handover of E&E systems for processing fresh water for storage reservoirs in China. Projects included Oil & Gas industries.

Henry obtained both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, US specializing in electromagnetic wave propagation on sheath technology for non-civilian industrial applications. He is a member of IEE.
